Work for Good how-to: Internships and volunteer opportunities

At Work for Good, we understand that the job market is in a challenging state. Though an organization you’re interested in may not currently be in the position to hire new staff, that doesn’t mean that they don’t have needs to fill. For that reason, Work for Good is hosting internship and volunteer listings.

Though these positions are (typically) not compensated, they can provide you with valuable resume-building experience, plus new skills and new connections.

In addition, the current remote-work environment means that many of these opportunities may be available regardless of where you, and the employer in question, happen to be!

Here’s the process for finding intern and volunteer positions:

1. Navigate to the “Find a job” page. From our homepage, there are three ways to do this:

  • Type in a keyword and a location and then click the “Search” button,
  • Click one of the categories under “Mission Focus Area” or “Role Category,” or
  • Click “Find a job” in the navigation bar at the top of the page.

2. Filter for intern and volunteer positions. On the “Find a job” page, you’ll see job listings on the right and filter options on the left. Scroll down to “Time commitment” and click the drop-down menu. From there, you can select “Intern” and/or “Volunteer.”

After a moment, your listings will be filtered for your preference. (Of course, you can also filter listings in a range of other categories, including in-person or remote work, education requirements, mission focus area, and role category.)

We wish you all the best in this time of uncertainty, and we will continue to update our site and our jobseeker offerings to help you make the most of your job hunt. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at hello@workforgood.org.
