About MEAC (Pronunciation-MEEK)

The mission of the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC) is to promote excellence in midwifery education through accreditation. As a national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, MEAC plays a critical role in strengthening educational standards and expanding pathways into the midwifery workforce—ultimately supporting access to high-quality, community-based maternity care.

Board Opportunity

MEAC is currently seeking to fill 4–6 seats on its Board of Directors for terms running from June 2026 through June 2029.

We invite interested candidates to submit a nomination or self-nomination application by May 8, 2026. Click the link to apply https://forms.gle/GMcPBbCXJ39QYqov7.

As MEAC continues to grow its national presence and strategic impact, we are particularly seeking board members with expertise in the following areas:

  • Fundraising & Philanthropy
  • Marketing, Communications & Brand Strategy

  • Midwifery and maternity care
  • Education of health care professionals
  • Public service through participation in accreditation

  • Prior service on a community, state, or national board

  • Administrator (postsecondary education, institutional leadership, or governance)
  • Public member (not affiliated with midwifery education or practice)

Personal Characteristics

Successful board members will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Collaborate in a collegial environment committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-bias practices
  • Engage in thoughtful dialogue while working toward consensus and informed decision-making
  • Consider complex information objectively and make timely, sound decisions
  • Communicate effectively, particularly in written decision-making contexts
  • Commit fully to a three-year term

Responsibilities

The MEAC Board of Directors is a self-governing body responsible for the organization’s strategic direction, oversight, and accountability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Rendering accreditation decisions for direct-entry midwifery education programs
  • Reviewing and refining accreditation policies, procedures, and standards
  • Supporting MEAC initiatives, including strategic growth, fundraising, and community engagement
  • Ensuring the organization operates in alignment with its mission and regulatory requirements

MEAC follows accreditation best practices as defined by the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA) and the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
