About this role

ABOUT THE ENGAGEMENT

We are engaging a strategic business development consultant to help build the commercial and funding foundation for a transformative initiative at the intersection of law and social impact. This is an initial 3-month engagement, with the potential to extend based on the work developed in the first term, focused on structuring the business model, developing seed funding materials, and supporting the Director in active investor conversations. The right candidate is a builder that can move quickly from strategy to polished deliverable and who understands how to frame mission-driven work for impact investors and funders.

DELIVERABLES

Phase 1: Months 1–2

  • Business structure & model: develop a defensible business model and legal/organizational structure optimized for seed funding; map revenue streams and ROI scenarios for investors; define entity type, operating model, and funding pathway recommendations.
  • Funding strategy: research and prioritize seed funding sources (e.g., impact VCs, foundations, angel investors, grants); draft a funding roadmap with target raise amount, use of funds narrative, and investor segmentation.

Phase 2: Months 2–3

  • Pitch deck & materials: develop a full investor pitch deck and supporting one pager, investor-ready and tailored to the impact investor audience; revisions based on Director feedback included.
  • Investor conversation support: prepare the Director for investor meetings with customized briefings, talking points, and Q&A prep; join select calls in an advisory capacity; support follow up materials and next step tracking.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Proven track record developing business models and pitch materials for early-stage or seed-stage ventures.
  • Experience in impact investing, social enterprise, legal or mission driven startup ecosystems strongly preferred.
  • Ability to translate complex programmatic or legal work into compelling investor narratives.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including building revenue projections and ROI frameworks.
  • Excellent written communication; pitch decks you've developed should be part of your portfolio submission.
  • Collaborative style, with a strong ability to work in partnership with the Director.
  • Energized by dynamic, early stage work with the ability to build new structures and frameworks from scratch, and adapt as needs and priorities evolve.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Impact VC or foundation landscape knowledge
  • Legal sector or nonprofit experience
  • Nonprofit / hybrid entity structuring experience
  • Prior seed fundraising experience
  • Existing investor network

HOW TO APPLY

Please submit a brief proposal (1–2 pages) outlining your approach to the engagement, 2–3 relevant examples of comparable work (pitch decks, business models or funding strategies), your proposed rate and fee structure, and your availability to start to hiring@globallegalinitiative.org. Portfolio samples are required. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and early applications are encouraged.
