Seasonal Plant Market & Nursery Assistant

JOB SUMMARY 

The Seasonal Plant Market and Nursery Assistant works with our Plant Market and Nursery team to grow and sell our nursery plants. This work includes maintaining Wylde Center’s ongoing plant market and nursery located at the Oakhurst Garden in Decatur, GA which features seasonal vegetables, perennials, herbs, medicinal plants, and other selections that thrive in our region. The PMNA reports to the Plant Market Coordinator and the Nursery Coordinator equally. Hours are flexible and include weekend hours.

This temporary/seasonal position runs from March 1, 2026-May 15, 2026. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plant Market Tasks: 
• Keep the plant market area stocked, clearly signed, and in order. Update layout seasonally to flow with seasonal offerings and highlight plants.
• Create, update and price plant signage and tags 
• Process plant deliveries, check for quality, and incorporate into the plant market
• Plant Market cashiering as necessary
• Interact with plant market customers, assisting them with finding specific items, answering questions, and providing information and feedback to the plant market team. 
• Work with the Plant Market Coordinator and Wylde Center staff to set up for and assist with the Spring Plant Sale Festival (April 1-3, 2026)
• Nursery Tasks
• Assist with nursery plant tasks including but not limited to seeding, watering, fertilizing, up-potting, pruning, composting, record keeping, and organization. 
• Prepare plants to be sold for the Spring Plant Sale Festival (April 1-3, 2026)
• Work with volunteers, seasonal employees, and Wylde Center staff to fulfill the goals of the plant market and nursery
• Fulfill all duties related to being a member of Wylde Center staff which includes attending staff meetings and participating in Wylde Center hosted community events as able.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications 

• Knowledge of gardening and agriculture  
• Knowledge of plant propagation and plant care 
• Experience with customer service
• Experience in developing, assessing, and managing projects from start to finish and proactively achieve project timelines
• Punctual and self-directed; able to work independently and with a team
• Proficiency with Google Drive
• Demonstrates honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a retail nursery environment
• Experience working with volunteers

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to work in a professional office setting for a portion of the work week
• Ability to work outside in extreme temperatures and weather conditions
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

Compensation: $18 per hour

Benefits: Free/discounted seedlings, 1 free flat of plant starts from our plant sale, unlimited access to Wylde Center educational programming.

Schedule: Part time, 20 hours per week. Flexible hours with regular weekend and occasional evening work. This position runs from March 1-May 15, 2026.
