- Truancy Intervention Project Georgia (TIP) is seeking a committed, mission-driven Staff Attorney to join our team and help advance our work supporting students and families facing chronic absenteeism. For over 30 years, TIP has provided legal and social support to young people referred to Fulton County Juvenile Court or school-based interventions due to truancy. By collaborating with volunteer attorneys, social workers, educators, and service providers, TIP works to uncover the root causes of absenteeism and help students reengage in school and life. About the Position The Staff Attorney serves as TIP’s legal expert on CHINS-Truancy cases in Fulton County and throughout Georgia. This role is responsible for coordinating and supporting volunteer attorneys, supervising legal externs, providing direct representation to a small caseload of students, and partnering closely with court personnel, schools, and community agencies. This position reports directly to the Executive Director. Key ResponsibilitiesLegal Representation & ExpertiseCoordinate legal representation of students in CHINS-Truancy cases through volunteer attorneys, externs, or direct representation.
- Collaborate with school staff, CHINS Unit staff, probation officers, social workers, and community agencies to support the needs of youth using a holistic, client-centered approach.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for judges and court staff regarding TIP’s CHINS-Truancy cases.
- Supervise and mentor legal externs and law students.
- Volunteer Attorney EngagementProvide comprehensive training and ongoing support to volunteer attorneys.
- Recruit and cultivate relationships with volunteer attorneys by attending community and law firm events.
- Build strong partnerships with pro bono coordinators in law firms, streamlining recruitment, onboarding, training, and case assignment processes.
- Maintain and update training materials, including video modules, and ensure adherence to volunteer onboarding requirements.
- Collaboration & Organizational SupportRepresent TIP in the legal community through conferences, trainings, committees, and outreach events.
- Participate actively in staff meetings and cross-team collaboration to support organizational goals.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client information in TIP’s data systems.
- Support other team members and organizational initiatives as needed.
- QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) and active membership in the Georgia Bar.
- 2–5 years of legal experience in public interest sector preferred.
- Demonstrated passion for children, families, and educational equity.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, writing, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and projects with attention to detail.
- Experience in a small nonprofit environment is a plus.
- Flexible, proactive, collaborative, and committed to learning and problem-solving.
- Compensation & BenefitsSalary range $75,000–$85,000, commensurate with experience
