About this role

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Teaching Artist who can create safe, brave spaces for young adults to explore their stories with honesty and vulnerability. Teaching artists will be trained in RE:IMAGINE’s Embrace The Mess curriculum to ensure preparedness for facilitating the program.The ideal candidate will lead groups of young adults as they break down barriers that prohibit vulnerability and self-expression, while guiding participants through the journey from introspection to artistic performance.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Workshop Sessions: Lead youth through our Embrace the Mess curriculum that includes: Tribe Mentality exercises, Uta Hagen’s Six Steps worksheets, and weekly performance preparation sessions 
  • Building Trust & Community: Establish authentic connections with participants and cultivate a supportive artist collective environment where young people train, create, and grow together
  • Guide Story Development: Help participants identify critical life moments and develop them into structured narratives, exploring how circumstances, relationships, obstacles, and intentions shape their reality and teach participants how to build trust
  • Writing Instruction: Teach youth to craft loglines, develop character perspectives, and translate personal experiences into theatrical formats with strong narrative structure
  • Mentor & Empower: Support participants in discovering their worth, holding themselves to high standards, and standing firm in their beliefs through the artistic process
  • Performance Coaching: Prepare youth for live storytelling performances, providing direction and feedback that honors their vulnerability while elevating their artistic expression
  • Collaboration: Work alongside program staff, support personnel, and community partners to ensure a cohesive, impactful experience for all participants
  • Creation: Willingness to learn basic sound recording techniques to assist in capturing program journey

 

Required Qualifications

  • Teaching Experience: Demonstrated experience teaching or mentoring trauma-impacted youth and young adults 
  • Ability to travel to and from the location site as needed (Dallas, GA)
