About this role

Accountants One is partnering with a global Nonprofit in New York to assist them in finding an Interim VP of Accounting for 2-4 months, possibly longer. This position is with a mission-driven, complex organization and is a highly visible role, partnering closely with the CFO and executive leadership team to ensure financial integrity, strengthen controls, and drive operational excellence. This global Nonprofit organization has approximately 1000 employees and a budget of $400M+.

The organization is ready to bring someone on board as soon as possible! 

The Interim VP of Accounting will provide executive-level leadership across core finance functions, including general ledger, financial reporting, compliance, and treasury. The mandate includes both stabilization and transformation—bringing rigor to core processes while identifying opportunities to modernize systems, reporting, and workflows.

  • CPA required
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including senior leadership roles within nonprofit organizations
  • Proven experience overseeing accounting operations for organizations with $100M+ in revenue/budget
  • Deep expertise in nonprofit accounting, including fund accounting, grant compliance, and donor-restricted funds
  • Lead and oversee all accounting functions within a complex, multi-entity environment
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory requirements
  • Provide financial reporting and insights to executive leadership, board of directors, and audit committees
  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Multi-entity experience preferred
  • Direct audit processes and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors
  • Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, systems, and controls, including ERP optimization or implementation
  • Experience with large ERP systems in complex environments
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing accounting team
  • Remote, with the ability to travel 10% domestically or internationally
  • Must be able to work on East Coast time
