Seasonal Summer Camp Educator 

Temporary/Seasonal Position, Non-Exempt

Late May - July 

JOB SUMMARY

The Wylde Center is seeking energetic, dependable, and engaging Summer Camp Educators to lead small groups of children in outdoor, garden-based learning experiences. Educators will implement weekly themed camps that connect children to nature through hands-on activities, exploration, and play. This position reports to the Camp Manager.

This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, fostering curiosity, and creating a positive, inclusive environment for children. Educators report directly to the Camp Manager and collaborate with fellow staff to ensure a safe, organized, and enriching camp experience.

This 8 week seasonal position (summer camp session) runs from Late May - July 2026. 

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery

  • Lead daily camp activities aligned with weekly themes (e.g., gardening, pollinators, ecology, food systems)
  • Facilitate hands-on, experiential learning in an outdoor garden setting
  • Adapt lessons to meet the needs and interests of campers

Camper Supervision & Engagement

  • Supervise and actively engage a group of campers throughout the day
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive, and respectful group environment
  • Support positive behavior and social-emotional development

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the Camp Manager and fellow educators to ensure smooth daily operations
  • Communicate camper needs, incidents, and highlights with the Camp Manager
  • Assist with transitions, group management, and shared responsibilities across camp

Daily Operations Support

  • Assist with camp setup and breakdown each day
  • Help maintain clean, organized, and functional garden and learning spaces
  • Support materials preparation and activity transitions

Safety & Well-being

  • Follow all safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Monitor camper health and well-being, including hydration, sun safety, and outdoor conditions
  • Respond appropriately to minor injuries and behavioral concerns

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children (camp, school, aftercare, or similar settings)
  • Comfort working outdoors in varying summer weather conditions
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm for hands-on, nature-based education
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • 1-3 years in environmental education, gardening, or outdoor learning
  • Experience leading groups of children independently



Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in summer conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to stay active and engaged throughout the camp day

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

Compensation: $20 per hour

Benefits: Free/discounted seedlings, 1 free flat of plant starts from our plant sale, unlimited access to Wylde Center educational programming.

Schedule: Hours are Monday - Friday, 7:45 AM - 3:30 PM. This position runs from Late May - July 2026.
