Job Description

The Senior Manager of Individual Giving manages the individual giving program for Open Hand Atlanta. Supporting the organization’s comprehensive fund development plan, the Senior Manager of Individual Giving will be responsible for the development and implementation of the annual fund, including strategies for all micro-, mid-level and monthly donors as well as maintaining a portfolio of major donors ($2,500+) for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. This role is vital to the success of Open Hand's Annual Fundraising efforts and will be responsible for strategically stewarding and growing the base of supporters to the organization alongside the Senior Director of Development. This role oversees the Advisory Board and supervises the Development Database Administrator.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the annual giving strategy for all micro-, mid-level and major gift prospects/donors. Assist the Sr. Director of Development in creating and maintaining timelines and work plans for donor engagement, including receptions, appeals, and strategic touchpoints.
  • Develop strategy for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of all donors giving $2,500+ annually, utilizing a moves management strategy to deepen relationships and move donors through the pipeline; This includes personalized outreach, one-on-one meetings and strategic engagement events as well as working collaboratively with the Senior Director of Development and CEO who manage portfolios of the largest major donors.
  • Oversee Open Hand’s monthly giving program, including development of annual strategies to boost participation, average pledge size, and donor retention.
  • Supervise the Database Administrator, ensuring accurate records and reporting, timely donor data research and records maintenance.
  • Manage the Advisory Board, including engagement, recruitment, stewardship efforts, meeting preparation and stewardship activities.
  • Manage the annual fundraising and appeals calendar in collaboration with the Sr. Manager of Communications and Marketing to facilitate Annual Fund communications including direct mail, email campaigns, personalized messaging, social media, and donor solicitations, under the direction of the Sr. Director of Development and Marketing.
  • Support the Sr. Director of Development with Board of Directors activities, including preparation of giving statements, event coordination, and board communications.
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Services to implement strategies to build relationships that convert volunteers into active donors.
  • Manage the donor stewardship process, providing direction and support to the entire team as needed.

Preferred Experience

Qualifications & Skills:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years nonprofit fundraising experience requested.
  • This position will manage all micro-, mid-level and major donors. As such, experience managing an annual fund and a proven track record of successfully soliciting and stewarding $2,500+ gifts is highly sought after.
  • Experience working with a monthly giving program is a plus.
  • Success in this position requires a team-oriented approach and, therefore, an individual who has outstanding interpersonal skills and understands the dynamics of working as part of a diverse team is critical.
  • Helpful characteristics include: Strong relationship building and management skills, warmth, tenacity, integrity, honesty, creativity, proactive thinking, a constant sense of curiosity and a desire for growth. Someone who is a self-starter, has meticulous attention to detail, and can independently assess and determine priorities will do well in this position.
  • Exceptional verbal and formal writing skills are a necessity, including the ability to convey professionalism, gratitude, empathy and organizational voice in written communications. (samples may be requested)
  • Flexibility regarding working evening and weekend hours as needed is required. This includes, but is not limited to, three signature events per year, plus additional donor cultivation/stewardship activities as required to successfully complete the responsibilities of this role.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit at a computer. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, drive a car, and lift and/or move 25 pounds.

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in related field or related experience
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required
  • Experience using a donor management system preferred
