Position Summary

The Director of Special Events is responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and evaluation of all special events hosted by MUST Ministries. This role plays a critical part in advancing the organization’s fundraising goals, increasing community engagement, and strengthening donor relationships. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

 

 Essential Responsibilities

  • Considering MUST’s full portfolio of special events, take a strategic approach to event execution, ensuring events have maximum impact and the greatest ROI possible
  • Plan, develop, and execute all MUST Ministries events from concept through completion
  • Lead the Event Coordinator, providing support as they manage auction-related duties and other logistical responsibilities, as assigned
  • As related to events, lead MUST Board of Directors and Leadership Team engagement and communication
  •  Collaborate with and lead teams of volunteers to successfully execute events
  • Secure and manage all vendors, venues, sponsorships, and in-kind donations required for events
  • Serve as the point of contact to event venues to ensure all logistics, timelines, and expectations are properly executed
  • Develop, market, and oversee third party fundraising events
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Development team, MUST C-Suite, and other teams and colleagues regarding event planning, progress, and outcomes
  • Develop and manage event budgets, ensuring financial goals are met or exceeded
  • Analyze and report on event performance, including return on investment (ROI), profit margins, and overall effectiveness
  • Prepare comprehensive post-event reports outlining profitability, successes, challenges, and recommendations for future improvements
  • Ensure all events align with the mission and brand of MUST Ministries

 

Essential Qualifications

  • BA/BS in a related field with 5-7 years of proven experience in nonprofit event planning
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, including experience supervising staff and volunteers
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
  • Knowledge of event and auction planning platforms
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Financial acumen, including the ability to develop budgets, track expenses, and analyze ROI and profitability
  • Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends as required by event schedules
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach to challenges

 

Physical and Work Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 20–25 pounds as needed
  • Ability to stand and be on your feet for extended periods during events
  • Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends as required by event schedules
  • Work is performed mainly in an office environment ; events are held in both outside and inside venues
