TITLE: Victim Services Liaison 

FLSA STATUS: Full-time, exempt

REPORTS TO: Sexual Assault Program Director

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Victim Services Liaison serves as a frontline individual, bridging the gap between victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, law enforcement, the court system, and various community entities. Covering primarily 1st shift and weekends as scheduled, this role serves multi sites representing LSR advocacy programs including hospital accompaniment to victims of sexual assault as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a liaison between law enforcement, the court system, and community entities to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
  • Provide individual support and safety planning for victims, addressing their unique needs.
  • Assist victims in securing basic necessities such as food, financial assistance, and safe housing.
  • Help victims access mental health care and counseling services.
  • Aid victims in filing for Victim's Compensation, if eligible.
  • Conduct outreach to victims who have experienced domestic violence incidents with law enforcement involvement.
  • Attend outreach and awareness events in the community and assist with training efforts.
  • Reach out to victims referred by Family Violence Intervention Programs.
  • Identify and monitor existing system processes for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Identify gaps in services and communication among victims, law enforcement, the court system, and service providers, and work towards addressing those gaps.
  • Participate in task forces and multi-disciplinary teams focused on domestic violence and sexual assault at the local level.
  • Provide hospital accompaniment to victims of sexual assault as scheduled, including regular night and weekend shifts.
  • Support TPO team as needed. Assist petitioners in applying for Temporary Protective Orders and completing related paperwork.
  • Attend court and other appointments related to the criminal justice process with clients upon request.
  • Coordinate with IPV strangulation nurse to schedule exams for NFS survivors.
  • Complete report for grant as necessary.
  • Cover Sexual Assault on-call shifts as scheduled, ensuring emotional support and overall well-being during the process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience working with and advocating for victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with surrounding police departments and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Ability to work with victims in a non-judgmental and confidential manner.
  • Some experience in public speaking.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with the criminal justice system and multiple community entities.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management for tracking information.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries.

MINIMUM CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered as a substitute for education.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in planning, implementing, and monitoring activities relevant to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in the State of Georgia, with a driving record that complies with insurance requirements.
  • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of background checks, fingerprinting, drug screening, and motor vehicle record checks.
